uPVC vs Timber Cladding for Anglesey Homes

Choosing between uPVC and timber cladding is about the look you want, the upkeep you are prepared to arrange and the suitability of the complete wall system. For an Anglesey property, begin with the existing elevation and its condition before deciding on a board colour.
Compare maintenance expectations
uPVC cladding is commonly selected for its relatively low maintenance requirements. It still needs appropriate cleaning and inspection. Freefoam’s product guidance describes washing its PVC products with a suitable cleaner or mild soapy water, and notes that coastal locations may need more frequent cleaning.
Timber maintenance depends on the species, treatment and finish selected. Ask the supplier for a written care schedule for the exact product. Comparing an unspecified timber board with a named uPVC system will not give a useful picture of long-term upkeep.
Look at real samples on your home
View samples outdoors beside the windows, roof and brickwork or render. A small online swatch does not show how texture, sheen and shadow change across a larger wall. Look in both sun and shade before making a final choice.
Think about board direction, visible joints and corner trims as well as colour. Ask for these details to be shown in the proposal. A clean-looking sample can produce a very different result if the junctions are poorly considered.
Understand what happens behind the boards
Cladding is part of a wall detail, not simply a decorative sheet. Ask what will be removed, what the underlying condition is and which supporting, weather-resisting and ventilation details the proposed system requires.
If the existing wall shows staining, movement or damp, make sure the cause is assessed before a new finish is chosen. Ask how any concealed defects discovered during preparation will be documented and priced.
Check the specification for your property
Request the product name, installation guidance and information relevant to its proposed use. The installer should explain how the system is suitable for the building and exposure. Do not assume all products described as uPVC cladding have identical characteristics.
Where planning, listed-building or building-regulations considerations may apply, confirm the requirements for the actual proposal before starting. Appearance alone is not enough to establish suitability, particularly when materials or the wall construction are changing.
Compare full costs, not just board prices
A material-only price omits access, preparation, supporting work, trims, fixings and waste removal. Ask quotations to cover the same area and the same finishing details. Check how work around windows, doors and service penetrations is included.
Keep product warranty terms separate from installation cover. Ask who provides each and what maintenance or registration conditions apply. This makes the comparison more useful than choosing solely on a headline guarantee or the lowest price per board.
Plan a cladding enquiry in Anglesey
Send your postcode, photographs of the complete elevation and a note of the finish you want to change. Mention any known damp issues, previous repairs and difficult access. You do not need to choose the final colour before asking for advice.
Explore our cladding service and consider how the finish will sit beside your fascias and gutters. Our coastal maintenance guide also explains how to organise ongoing exterior checks.
